Swapped my cheap charcoal for lumpwood last month and can't go back
I used to grab the cheapest briquettes at Walmart for my offset smoker, thinking charcoal is charcoal. After a buddy swore lumpwood burns hotter and cleaner, I tried a 20-pound bag from a local place in Austin. Now my brisket renders fat way faster and I get less ash buildup in the firebox. Has anyone else noticed a big difference switching from briquettes to lumpwood?

I got a 30-pound bag of B&B lumpwood from a feed store near my place in Colorado, and yeah, it was a total game changer for me too. I mean, I used to fight with briquettes smoldering and leaving this weird chemical smell on my ribs, but lumpwood just catches faster and burns way hotter without all that mess. The first time I used it, my pork shoulder came out in like 10 hours instead of 14, and the bark was way crispier. Idk how I ever dealt with all that ash before, honestly feels like I was making everything harder on myself.
