Finally switched from gas to charcoal after 6 years of stubbornness

I always thought charcoal was too much work for BBQ, but my buddy Mike let me try his offset smoker last Saturday and the bark on his brisket blew mine away. Got a Weber kettle that same day and spent 10 hours this weekend learning to manage the fire, and honestly the flavor is way better than my gas grill ever gave me. Anyone else make the switch later in life and regret not doing it sooner?

Read an article in Meathead's book about how gas grills can't get hot enough for proper bark formation and that stuck with me... finally seeing it firsthand was wild. The flavor difference is night and day, I swear I can taste the smoke in ways I never noticed with gas. Took me a few tries to figure out the vents and how to keep the temp steady, but once it clicked it felt like cheating. My neighbors have been stopping by just to ask what I'm cooking, never got that with the gas setup.

Ask @the_barbara if she's tried using different wood chunks yet?
