Used to think all painting was just slapping color on a wall until I saw a friend's living room after they did a proper two-tone job
I watched her tape off a pattern and use a laser level for three hours last Saturday, and the difference in her tiny apartment was huge. She found the tutorial on a DIY channel called "Color Blocking for Dummies" and it honestly made the ceiling look way higher. Has anyone else tried using painter's tape in a diagonal stripe pattern?

Those diagonal stripes actually saved my cousin's narrow hallway it made the space look twice as wide without moving a single piece of furniture. Her tutorial from "Color Blocking for Dummies" showed how the 45 degree angle tricked the eye way better than horizontal lines ever could. Busy is fine if the room needs a focal point otherwise solid color just blends into a boring box.

Honestly, I get why people like it but diagonal stripes always look kind of busy to me. Tbh I'd rather just paint the whole room one solid color and add texture with furniture.
