TIL my fridge's ice maker can flood the kitchen in under 10 minutes
Our ice maker started making a weird noise last Tuesday night around 9pm. I figured it was just the motor getting old, so I ignored it. Woke up Wednesday morning to a puddle spreading from the fridge across the whole kitchen floor. The water line had cracked behind the fridge and was spraying water everywhere. Took me 2 hours to mop everything up and another trip to the hardware store for a new line. Has anyone else had a hidden water line fail like that without warning?

Yeah that "snapped clean off the valve" part you mentioned... that's exactly what happened to me too @robinson.matthew. I had a 2020 Whirlpool and the plastic fitting just gave out one night, no warning at all. I've started putting a small bucket under the line connection now, just in case it happens again. My kitchen has this weird slope too, water ran right into the pantry and ruined a bag of rice and some boxes of pasta. Definitely checking those plastic lines more often now, I figure if I can catch a tiny leak before it becomes a flood I'll save myself the headache.

Man that exact same thing happened to my GE fridge from 2019. The plastic line just snapped clean off the valve. I had water standing in my living room because the kitchen tile slopes the wrong way. My wife was FURIOUS. Now I check those connections every 6 months with a flashlight.
