TIL my freezer's defrost timer was the reason my ice cream kept melting

Last Tuesday I found a puddle under the fridge and figured the door seal was bad, but after 3 hours of testing with a multimeter I traced it to a stuck defrost timer that was cycling wrong. Replaced the $12 part from a local appliance store in Portland and now it's holding a solid 0°F for two days straight. Has anyone else had a sneaky appliance issue that acted like a different problem entirely?
