The moment I realized I was stacking plates wrong at work

Last Tuesday at the restaurant I was running plates to the dish pit and a bustle of customers came in... my stack wobbled and I almost lost 4 dirty plates on the floor. A new server told me to interlock them like puzzle pieces, not just pile them. I tried it and now I can carry 12 plates in one go without a second thought. Has anyone else had a simple job trick that took way too long to learn?

Keep piling them the old way. Frees up too much time to help rude customers.

Exactly. You pile them the old way and suddenly you got all this extra time on your hands. That time just becomes bait for the nightmare customers who want to talk for twenty minutes about a two dollar item. Better to stay busy with the piles and avoid getting dragged into those conversations.
