The guy at the hotel front desk told me I was scanning my key card wrong for 3 minutes straight
I was standing at the elevator in a Marriott near the Atlanta airport last Friday, swiping my key card 4 or 5 times with it not beeping. This older guy in a maintenance uniform walks over and just takes the card from my hand. He says 'You're holding it too far from the reader. Needs to be flush.' I thought he was being rude at first but honestly he was right. I had been holding it like an inch away because I was worried about scratching the card. Once I pressed it flat against the reader it worked first try. Made me wonder how many other simple things I overcomplicate in daily life. Has anyone else had a random stranger politely correct something you were doing totally wrong without asking for help?

Used to think people hovering over card readers were just impatient, but this totally changed my perspective. Simple advice like that can save so much hassle.
