Stood too close to a bonfire at a campsite in Colorado and learned a hard lesson about synthetic fabrics

I was at this campout near Estes Park, wind kicked up, and my puffy jacket sleeve just melted right against a log. Now I only wear cotton or wool near a fire, anyone else have a close call like that?

Melting a puffy jacket is a rite of passage but man, synthetics are brutal near fire. I had a fleece pullover literally shrink up my arm once when a spark hit it, looked like a wrinkled trash bag stuck to me. Cotton feels way safer but you gotta be careful if it gets wet, that's a whole other problem. Wool is honestly the best, it just smells a bit like a wet sheep when it dries.

Man that fleece story is way too familiar. Had a cheap synthetic vest from a big box store once, got too close to the campfire and that thing just puckered up like a deflated balloon right on my chest. Still love the warmth but you gotta treat synthetics like they're allergic to sparks or something.
