Shoutout to the guy at the park who told me my dog's leash was too long
Last Saturday he explained how a 4-foot lead gives me way more control near traffic, and after almost losing my grip once, I swapped my 8-footer for a shorter one and my walks feel ten times safer now - anyone else get stubborn about their gear until someone finally spells it out?

Nah, I actually went back to a longer leash after trying a short one. My dog needs room to sniff and explore without me yanking her neck every two seconds.

My vet actually told me that short leashes can increase reactivity in some dogs because they feel trapped (the restricted movement makes them more anxious about other dogs approaching). She recommended a 6-foot leash with a hands-free belt clip so I can give slack when needed but still have quick control in tight spaces. It changed our walks completely, fewer pull episodes and way less stress for both of us.
