Question about paying for a background check service
I spent $30 on a background check service last week to look into a potential roommate. It found a past eviction they didn't mention. That $30 saved me from signing a lease with someone who would have been a huge problem. I was skeptical at first, thinking I could just trust my gut. Now I see the value in getting the facts before you commit. Has anyone else used a service like this and had it reveal something important?

What if the eviction was a landlord's mistake?

Oh man, I was totally in the "just meet them and you'll know" camp for years. I thought those checks were a waste of money, like paying for a vibe you could get for free. Then I almost rented my spare room to this super nice guy, but a check showed he had a bunch of unpaid utility bills in collections from his last place. He seemed so put together, but that was a huge red flag I never would have seen. It really changed how I look at it now.
