My car battery died in a Target parking lot and the jump kit was dead too

Last Tuesday I ran into Target for like 10 minutes, came out and my 2013 Civic wouldnt even click. I keep one of those little jump starter packs in the trunk, the $60 one from AutoZone. Pulled it out, hooked it up, and nothing. The pack's charge light showed full but it just wouldnt push power. I ended up calling my brother who drove 20 minutes with jumper cables. Turns out the battery was original to the car, 11 years old, I guess I got lucky it lasted that long. The jump pack thing is the second one I've had die on me, both just sat in the trunk for months. Has anyone else had those portable jumpers fail even when they show a full charge, or do I just keep buying junk?
