My aunt's question about my job made me stop and think

Last Sunday at a family cookout in Jersey City, my aunt asked if my work actually helps anyone or just helps my boss. That one question had me stumped for a minute. Has anyone else gotten a simple question that made you rethink your whole career path?

Oh boy, here we go. Look, every job is just a way to pay for stuff until you die. Your aunt asked a deep question but she probably forgot about it by the time the burgers came off the grill. I once had a coworker quit after watching a documentary about corporate greed, and now he drives a food truck. He still answers to his bank account, just with more grease. Unless you're literally selling weapons to dictators or scamming old people, your job probably does help someone, even if it's just your boss and the electric company. That's how most of the world works, and there's nothing wrong with clocking in, doing your thing, and going home. If you start questioning every task that benefits someone above you, you'll be broke and jobless but very thoughtful.
