I'm sticking with manual can openers after 3 electric ones failed in a year

My last electric opener died mid-can on a Tuesday, so I grabbed a $5 manual one and it's still going strong after 6 months. Has anyone else ditched electric for manual after getting burned by broken motors?

Dude YES! I went through the exact same thing. I bought three different electric openers from different brands and every single one crapped out within months. One of them started smoking while I was opening a can of beans, scared the heck out of me. I finally got so fed up I just grabbed a basic manual one at the grocery store for like six bucks. That was over a year ago and it still works like new. The motor thing is a real problem, I think they just don't build them to last anymore. You made the right call.

Oh man, tell me about it! I had three electric openers bite the dust in less than two years. The last one just stopped turning mid-can and wouldn't budge no matter what I tried. I finally got so fed up I grabbed a basic manual one from the hardware store for like four bucks, and honestly it's been a champ. No fuss, no motors to burn out, just a simple twist and it's done. Your mileage may vary, but I'm never going back to electric, not after that nonsense.
