Had a chat with my neighbor that totally shifted how I see yard work

I was out trimming hedges last Wednesday and my neighbor Carl came over to borrow a rake. He mentioned he spends about 15 minutes a week just walking his property looking for small issues before they get big. That stuck with me because I usually wait until something is a mess then spend hours fixing it. He pointed out a tiny crack in my driveway that I would have ignored until next winter. So now I do a five minute walk around every Saturday morning and I've caught three small things so far. Has anyone else had a random conversation completely shift how they handle routine tasks?

Carl sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Did he mention if that 15 minute walk thing came from some specific experience like a big repair bill or something? I'm curious what pushed him to start doing that in the first place.

My neighbor used to ignore his old truck until the transmission gave out on a fishing trip 50 miles from home. Now he walks around it every morning checking fluids and belts, says it saved him from repeating that nightmare.
