Found out I was watering my plants all wrong from a random comment on here

Somebody said I was drowning my snake plant by watering it every week. I cut back to once a month and now it's pushing out new leaves for the first time in 8 months. Has anyone else overwatered plants they thought were tough to kill?

Killed a perfectly good peace lily that way too. Thought I was being a good plant parent, turns out I was basically drowning it once a week. Now I just stick my finger in the soil and if it's still damp I leave it alone, way better results.

What if your tap water is the problem? Peace lilies are super sensitive to stuff like fluoride and chlorine. I killed two before I figured out my city water was basically poison for them. Started using filtered water or letting tap sit out overnight to let the chlorine evaporate. That plus the finger test and mine finally stopped looking crispy and sad.
