Found out 70% of credit card fraud happens online and it changed how I shop

I was reading a report from the FTC last week while looking up scams and I saw this stat that 70% of credit card fraud reports are from online purchases, not stolen cards. It surprised me because I always thought losing your wallet was the big risk. Now I use a virtual card number for every website that offers it. My bank gives me a one-time use number that links to my account but isn't the real card. I started doing this after a $45 charge showed up from a site I bought socks from 6 months ago. Has anyone else tried this and found it actually works long term?

Virtual cards work but people get lazy with them. You still have the same problem if you use autofill or save the card on a hacked site. Just using a one-time number won't save you if you're still buying from shady places.
