Appreciation post: the ER nurse at Mercy General who asked me one question that fixed my sleep
I was in the waiting room at Mercy General in Cincinnati back in March with a busted wrist from a softball game, and the nurse doing intake asked when I'd eaten dinner. I said around 11pm most nights. She just nodded and said that was probably why I was up till 3am every night. Started eating by 7pm and I'm asleep by 11 now, no apps or fancy tricks. Has anyone else had a random comment from a stranger stick with them like that?
Man, that nurse basically handed you a free fix and didn't even make it a big deal. It makes total sense too, because eating that late means your body is still busy digesting when you're trying to wind down, so of course your brain won't shut off. I bet half the people buying sleep apps and fancy gadgets just need someone to point out the obvious thing they're doing every night. The wild part is how a two second comment from a stranger can land harder than advice from people who actually know you. Kind of makes you wonder what other simple stuff we're all missing because nobody's said it out loud yet.
