That glowing "AI voice assistant" startup demo I saw was just a guy typing in the background
I went to a tech meetup last Friday in Brooklyn and sat through this pitch for a new AI assistant that supposedly responds in real time to questions. The guy on stage asked it three things and each answer came back perfect in under a second. After the demo I walked up and saw his laptop screen, dude had a human typist hidden in another browser tab just copy-pasting pre-written replies. Why are people still falling for these fake demos in 2024? Has anyone else caught a company pulling this same trick at a conference?

Perfect answers in under a second" - did he skip any tough questions or only easy ones?

Nah, he dodged the ones where you have to explain why your home wifi router keeps dropping connection. That's the real test of intelligence right there.
