My old professor insisted AI art was just a gimmick back in 2018.

He said it would never grasp true composition or intent, just mimic patterns. Now I use Midjourney for half my initial client mood boards, and the results are solid. Anyone else have a mentor who was totally wrong about a tech shift?

Wait, your professor said that in 2018? That's wild because I remember seeing some pretty rough AI stuff back then, but it was already getting interesting. For him to be that sure it was just a gimmick seems crazy now.

Man, this is EVERYWHERE now. @brown.olivia is right, it was rough back then, but people just dig in. I see it with my dad and streaming, swore he'd never use anything but cable. It's that same refusal to see the curve, not just the starting point. They get stuck on how clumsy a new tool is and miss where it's going.
