I was sure AI art was just a gimmick until I saw the Midjourney v6 update.

For months, I thought it could only make weird, soulless pictures with too many fingers. Then I saw a gallery show in Portland last month that had pieces made with it, and the detail was stunning, like real paintings. The artist said she used specific prompts about brush strokes and light, and it actually listened. Has anyone else had an AI tool win them over after they'd written it off?

Yeah, the part about "specific prompts about brush strokes and light" is exactly it. I was the same way, totally skeptical. Then I tried describing a photo I took of my dog in the backyard, but told the AI to make it look like an old oil painting with thick, chunky paint and sunset light coming through the trees. The result actually had visible brush marks and warm glows on his fur. It wasn't just a filter, it built a whole new style from the ground up. That's when I got it.

Totally get that moment. Had the same thing happen trying to get a picture of my coffee mug to look like a vintage poster. Telling it to use flat colors and bold black outlines made all the difference. It's crazy how much the little details in the prompt actually matter. Goes from generic to something with a real point of view.
