I let an AI plan my garden layout and it put tomatoes in the shade
Last month I used a free AI garden planner tool, telling it I had a 10x15 foot plot in my backyard in Portland. It gave me a full layout with planting dates. I followed it exactly, but now my tomato plants are all stunted because the AI placed them where a big maple tree casts afternoon shade. I learned you can't skip common sense even with a smart tool. Has anyone else had an AI give advice that missed something totally obvious like sunlight?

Honestly that's so frustrating, I feel for you. Tbh I tried an AI recipe maker last week and it told me to add a cup of salt to a soup, like a full measuring cup. I almost did it before my brain caught up. These tools just don't have the basic life experience we do. It's a good reminder to double check their ideas against simple reality.

I used to think AI was ready for stuff like cooking. Then my friend's smart oven tried to broil a frozen pizza for 45 minutes. It would have been a charcoal brick. That's when I got it, like @fionag23 said. These systems just copy patterns without knowing what a burnt smell means. You still need a person to hear the timer and say that's way too long.
