Heard a dev at a meetup say AI art is 'soulless pixels' and I got kinda fired up about it.

I was at a local tech meetup in Austin last Tuesday and this guy next to me said generative AI is just 'soulless pixels' that steal from real artists. I've been using Midjourney for moodboards on my design projects and it actually helps me visualize concepts way faster than sketching rough drafts by hand every time. Does calling it soulless just ignore how humans still guide the tool with their own creative choices?

Did he also call paintbrushes 'fancy sticks'?

That "fancy sticks" thing is hilarious, I gotta say. But I'm wondering - did he actually get any good at anything he tried, or was he just a mess with every new hobby? Like, was there a moment where he actually painted something decent with those fancy sticks, or did he just give up after making a blue blob on the canvas? I'm trying to picture if he ever stuck with anything long enough to get even a little bit good at it. Seems like a classic case of someone who buys all the gear with zero clue.
