I patched my roof with space blanket material and it reflected sunlight into my neighbor's yard
Thought it would be a cheap fix for a leak. Now his garden is getting fried like it's on Mercury. He's not happy.

Space blankets are for hypothermia, not home repair.

Agreed @the_wyatt, this is such a common thing now. People will grab whatever's handy for a quick fix without thinking. It's like that with so many household items, from using cooking foil as insulation to plastic wrap for leaks. The trend of using gear for other things without knowing its real use can cause more problems. Your example really shows how important it is to use stuff the right way.

Yeah that "grab whatever's handy" thing is everywhere, like using a butter knife as a screwdriver and stripping the screw head.
