Just realized my studio closet cleanup wrecked my sketch flow

I sorted all my pens and now I can't remember where anything is. My last sketchbook page is still blank from two days ago.

Ugh I've done that exact thing with my paint tubes. It's like the perfect order makes your brain freeze up. I finally kept just my favorite pens in a coffee mug on my desk and shoved the rest in a drawer, so there's a messy middle ground.

Sometimes aiming for perfect order just stops you in your tracks. It makes picking up a pen feel like a big event. Your messy middle ground sounds like the only sane way to work.

Last month I labeled every drawer in my workspace with exactly what goes inside. Now I spend zero minutes hunting for a certain brush or pencil. That coffee mug method sounds like a recipe for clutter and lost items. With a strict system, my mind is clear to focus on the actual art. The initial setup takes work, but it pays off every single day. Calling order a barrier ignores how much chaos slows you down.
