Street taco comparison: $1.50 cart vs $3.50 shop in Boyle Heights
I finally did a head to head test last Tuesday on the same street. The cart by the laundromat charges $1.50 for a carne asada taco with just onions and cilantro. The sit down place three blocks over charges $3.50 but adds radish slices and a lime wedge. Honestly the cheap cart wins because the meat had that smoky char from a flat top that's been seasoned for years. The shop's version tasted cleaner but kinda plain, like they rinsed the flavor off. Am I crazy for preferring the cart, or does price actually trick your brain into liking something more?
