Scoring a rare 7-inch from a basement show was everything... streaming services took that away.

I remember trading tapes with friends after shows, each one a personal recommendation... These days, my feed is full of songs picked by some machine. The excitement of uncovering a hidden gem is just not there anymore... It's like the soul of the scene got lost in the data. Makes me sad for new fans who'll never know that thrill...

Sure, the old way had its charm, and it was fun digging through crates. But let's be real, that was also a huge pain and crazy expensive. Now anyone can hear almost any song ever made for ten bucks a month. New fans find their own thrill digging through playlists online. The soul of the scene just moved, it didn't die. Sometimes I wonder if we just miss being younger.

Hey, but what about the connection you had with physical media? Digging through crates wasn't just about pain, it was about the hunt, lol. Streaming makes everything easy, but that hunt is gone for good. Sure, new fans have playlists, but does that really build the same kind of passion? I get the nostalgia thing, but this feels like more than just missing our youth.

Honestly, I find new gems all the time through fan-made playlists and deep dives into artist radio. The hunt is still there, it's just digital now (I found this killer Lithuanian post-punk band last week because someone on a forum linked their Bandcamp). The thrill of sharing a find feels the same when you send a link to a friend who gets it.
