Warning: My quick hike turned into an overnight ordeal

I underestimated how long the loop would take and didn't bring a headlamp. Had to hunker down until sunrise, which was pretty scary. What's your worst timing miscalculation on a trail?

Sometimes these unexpected nights out turn into the best stories. Getting stuck without a headlamp forces you to slow down and really experience the wilderness. In my experience, a little fear can make you more aware of your surroundings. It's not always a disaster if you have basic know-how and keep your cool. Timing mistakes happen to everyone, but they often teach good lessons about planning. So while it sounds scary, it might just be a normal part of hiking adventures.

I've had nights like that where the dark makes every sound sharper. My flashlight failed once on a ridge, and I had to rely on starlight to find my way down. It was scary, but now I always pack extra batteries.
