Why does nobody talk about the charm of a ferry breaking down
I was stranded overnight when the last boat from this little island quit working. The only hotel was full, so I slept on a bench by the dock. A fisherman saw me and brought over a cold beer and a bag of pretzels. Now I plan my visits around when the ferry is most likely to have issues.

That one fisherman's the real MVP honestly. Reminds me of this time the ferry to Block Island broke down a few summers ago and a local B&B owner came down with a thermos of coffee and blankets for everyone stuck. There's something about being stranded that strips away the usual "stranger danger" wall we all walk around with. You get this weird little community of people who are all in the same awkward spot. It's like a forced reset button on how we treat each other.
