The way I handle bleach retouch appointments changed after a client's hair broke off

About a year ago, I had a regular who came in every 8 weeks for her roots. I used to just slap the bleach on, wrap it in foil, and set a timer for 45 minutes, same as the first time. It was fast, and I never had a big problem... until her hair snapped about two inches from the scalp during a comb-out. I felt awful. Now, I always do a strand test on the regrowth first, and I mix my bleach with a bond builder like Olaplex No.1 every single time, no exceptions. I also check the mid-lengths and ends with my fingers before I even start. It adds maybe 10 minutes to the service, but it's worth it. Has anyone else had to completely change their bleach routine after a scare like that?

My own bleach scare taught me that lesson.

I used to mix cleaners all the time until my buddy ruined his favorite shirt. @mia_park, your post really hit home for me... I don't touch bleach now without reading the bottle twice.
