A client in Portland asked for a 'mushroom brown' and I used a dash of copper direct dye in my mix.

It gave this incredible, subtle warmth under certain lights that she loved, but it faded way faster than I expected (like, after two washes). Has anyone found a good way to lock in that kind of tone without making it too permanent?

Ugh, that's the worst. It reminds me of those perfect lipstick shades that disappear after one coffee. That copper warmth is so tricky to hold onto. Maybe try a color-depositing conditioner in a similar tone for her to use at home? Lets her control the fade.

Oh man, my friend had that exact thing happen with a rose gold tint. It looked amazing for a week and then just ghosted her. She started mixing a tiny bit of the direct dye into her regular conditioner, and it kept the color way longer without being a huge commitment.
