A customer's 1911 taught me to never trust a 'gunsmith' who only works on Glocks
Last week, a guy brought in a Colt 1911 from 1972 that wouldn't feed right. He said another shop told him to just buy new mags and sent him away. I took the slide off and found the feed ramp had been polished with a Dremel... badly. It looked like a kid did it. The angles were all wrong and it was eating up the brass. I had to re-cut the ramp on my Bridgeport and hand-fit a new barrel bushing. Has anyone else seen this kind of hack work from shops that only know polymer frames?

Always check the feed ramp first when a 1911 has feeding problems.

My old Colt had the same issue, and polishing the feed ramp with 800 grit sandpaper fixed it right up.
