Rant: My animation cels keep scrambling themselves after I scan them

Lately, I've been scanning my hand-drawn animation cels for a short film (just a fun side project, you know). I always put them in order when I scan them and save the files with clear names. But when I open them later on my computer, some are in the wrong place. Like, cel number five will be where cel three should be. I've gone over my steps again and again and found no mistakes on my end. This has happened a few times now, and I can't find any software issue causing it. It feels like a glitch in the matrix, like my work is changing when I'm not looking. I even started keeping a paper log, but sometimes my notes don't match what I see on screen, which really bugs me.

You said it feels like a "glitch in the matrix," but is it really that deep? Stuff like this happens all the time with digital files. Maybe you mislabeled a couple by accident, or the preview window in your software is showing them out of order. I've had photos do that where the date tag gets weird. It's probably just a simple mix-up, not your work changing on its own.

Man, I had the same thing with my project folders last week. Files were jumping around like crazy in the preview. I started opening each one to check the actual date saved inside the properties. Found out three of them had their creation dates messed up from a copy-paste error. I just renamed them with a simple number system at the front, like 01, 02, 03. That forced everything to stay in order.
