My brother told me he saw the same license plate number three times in one day.

He was driving from his house in Bellingham to a job site near Everett. He said the plate was 7JX-482, and it was on a blue pickup, then a white sedan, then a different blue pickup. It made me think about how often we really notice these things. Has anyone else had a number or word follow them around like that?

Ever read about the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon? It's that thing where you notice something once and then see it everywhere. Your brain just starts picking it out from all the background noise.

Wait, he remembered the exact plate number from three different cars? That's the wild part to me. @graywright is right about the brain thing, but I'd have trouble recalling my own plate after seeing it that many times. Your brother must have been really locked onto that sequence. Makes you wonder what else we're seeing but just not filing away.
