Appreciation post: A customer in Phoenix pointed out my caulk line was too thick on a storefront door

They showed me a picture from a job I did six months ago where the sealant had already cracked. What's your go-to method for a clean, lasting bead?

Backer rod and primer are a lot of extra work for a simple door seal. I've done hundreds of jobs with just a clean, thin bead of a good quality silicone and they hold up fine. Sometimes a thick line is the problem, it can't flex as well and just splits.

Honestly, a cracked line after six months in Phoenix heat sounds like a material problem, not your work. That sun eats everything. My go-to is a backer rod and a proper primer first, every time.
