A shop owner's thanks for a clean glass job

I was putting in new glass for a bakery display case this morning. The owner was nervous about dust getting in her food. I took my time to seal everything up and clean the area after. She watched the whole thing and seemed really happy. At the end, she gave me a free pastry and said she'd call me for her next job. It was a small thing, but it made me feel good about my work. Those little connections with customers are what make this trade special.

Actually used to think trades were just about fixing things fast and getting paid. Seeing how stoked that bakery owner was totally flipped that for me. Now I get that making someone's day with careful work is the real win, way better than just a check. That free pastry moment is what you actually remember.

But saying "making someone's day is the real win" is a nice thought that doesn't pay the bills. That free pastry is sweet, but it doesn't cover your truck payment or insurance. Consistent, reliable customers who pay on time are what actually let you keep doing this work.
