PSA: My old way of cleaning punties was a total waste of time

For years, I'd just knock the hot glass off my punty iron and then let it cool before chipping the leftover bits off with pliers. It was loud, took forever, and I'd often scratch the steel. About six months ago, I saw someone at the studio in Asheville just dip the hot punty tip back into the glory hole for a few seconds after transfer. The leftover glass melts right off into a clean drip. I tried it the next day and it works perfectly every time. Now my punties stay smooth, I save maybe 15 minutes a day on cleanup, and my ears aren't ringing from all the banging. Has anyone else found a simple tweak that saves a surprising amount of hassle?

Honestly, that method leaves a tiny bit of glass that messes up my next gather.

Heard that trick works best with a really hot glory hole.
