Changed my mind about cold working after a really frustrating Wednesday
I always thought grinding and polishing was just a boring cleanup step, but my piece cracked at the punty mark because I rushed it. Has anyone found a good way to smooth that area without stressing the glass?

My cousin's a potter and she swears by letting pieces cool in vermiculite for a full day. Ever tried something like that with glass?

Yeah, the "letting pieces cool for a full day" thing is key. I used to rush my glass pieces, just leaving them in the kiln to cool down on its own schedule. Then I had a batch of pendants just... crack. All of them. @michaelw26, your cousin is onto something with that slow cool idea. For glass, I started using a fiber blanket to pack pieces, which is kinda like the vermiculite trick for pottery. It traps the heat and lets it leave the glass super slow over many hours. Totally changed my results, no more random cracks from cooling too fast.
