Spent $400 on a good rock hammer and it changed everything

Honestly, for years I just used a cheap hardware store hammer and a cold chisel for breaking rocks. It was fine for looking at stuff in my yard, but I'd always end up with a bunch of busted pieces instead of a clean split. About three years back, I finally dropped the cash on a proper Estwing rock pick. The difference was night and day. I could actually control the break on a piece of granite from a local quarry and see the crystal structure. It felt like I was finally doing it right instead of just smashing things. Anyone else have a tool that made collecting way better?

My old Estwing finally gave out after 15 years. I replaced it with a 22 oz crack hammer from the hardware store and it works just as well for most stuff.

Oh man, totally get it! I had the same upgrade moment with a proper geology hammer, it's like going from a butter knife to a scalpel.
