My dog found a weird rock in the backyard that turned out to be a fossil
My beagle, Baxter, dug up this heavy, bumpy rock near our fence in Boise. I thought it was just a weird stone, but after cleaning it off, I saw a clear spiral pattern. I posted a picture on a local rockhound forum and a guy named Carl told me it's a gastropod fossil, probably from the Glenns Ferry Formation. Has anyone else found fossils in their own yard like that?

Honestly that's a pretty common find in that area, not really that weird. The Glenns Ferry Formation is full of those gastropod casts. It's cool for a first find but not exactly rare.

Yeah totally agree. Found a handful of those myself last summer and after the first one the excitement wears off pretty quick.
