This guy at the coffee shop was ranting about his new phone's battery life

He was showing his friend the screen-on time, saying it only got 4 hours before hitting 20%. He bought it based on a review that said it was 'all-day battery'. That got me thinking, do reviewers even use these things like normal people? I stream music and check my phone constantly. My own phone barely makes it to dinner. How do you test a gadget's battery in real life, not just in a lab? I need to know before my next upgrade.

My buddy's phone review method is just leaving a YouTube video playing on a loop all day. He times how long it takes to die from full. Not very scientific, but it gives him a rough idea for screen-on time. He says it's more real than the charts they show in articles.

Honestly, I used to just trust the official battery ratings. But last year I tracked my own actual use for a week, writing down when I charged and what I did. It was a huge wake-up call. My daily mix of apps and weak signal drained it way faster than any lab test. Now I only trust data from people who test like they actually live with the phone.
