Just finished a table that sat in a garage for a decade
Picked up this oak table from a neighbor's garage sale in Phoenix. It was bone dry and covered in grime. I did a light sand, then used a homemade mix of equal parts boiled linseed oil, turpentine, and spar varnish. After four coats over two weeks, the grain just popped back to life. Has anyone else brought back a piece that was left for dead like this?

Hot take: Classic garage rescue.
That mix is basically magic for dried out wood. Found a set of chairs in a shed once that looked like kindling. A similar brew brought them back from the brink. It's wild how much life is still in a piece if you can get something to soak in deep. The grain on that oak must look incredible now.

That homemade mix you used sounds like the old "Danish oil" recipe people talk about. I read a forum post once where a guy brought back a barn door with the same three part blend. He said the turpentine really lets it soak into thirsty wood. Seeing that grain pop must be so satisfying after finding it in that state.
