Shoutout to the free version of Clockify for tracking my time
I was always bad at guessing how long a job would take and losing money. Last month, I started using Clockify's free tier to track every minute I work on a client's website. It shows me exactly where my time goes, so my quotes are way better now. Anyone else use a free tool that saved their bacon?

Losing money" is right, I feel that. My old quotes were basically just hopeful guesses dressed up in an invoice. Tracking time feels like getting glasses for your business, you finally see where all the hours actually go.

My buddy who does freelance design had that exact clock-watching fear. He tracked his time and saw he spent 45 minutes just looking for the right font for a simple logo. It wasn't about billing, it was about seeing that his "quick searches" were a huge hole in his day. He made a simple font library the next week and got that time back. It changed his whole process.

Okay but that "glasses for your business" thing, I gotta push back. I mean, sometimes you see too much. I tracked my time for a month and it just made me second guess every little task, like is this client call worth logging? It can turn you into a clock watcher instead of just doing the work. Maybe it's just me but that hyper focus on minutes can kill the flow and make the job feel way more like a grind.
