Pro tip: I switched from billing by the hour to a flat project fee and my income jumped 40% in a quarter

I used to track every minute for a client in Chicago, which led to constant scope creep and me working way more than I billed. Last April, I started quoting a single price for the whole job based on the value I deliver. It took some practice to estimate right, but now I earn more for less stress and the client knows the exact cost up front. Has anyone else made this switch and have a good way to figure out your project rates?

My buddy did that and ended up arguing over what "done" meant lol. Setting clear limits in the contract saved him.

My friend learned the hard way when a client kept asking for "just one more small change" every single day. They never agreed on what finished work looked like before starting. Now she gets everything in writing with specific checkpoints.
