My cousin needed a place to stay during my busiest work week
He showed up without warning right when I had three client drafts due. I had to set up a temporary office in my bedroom to keep things quiet. It threw off my whole routine but we made a schedule for shared spaces. Now I always confirm visitor dates way ahead of time.

Setting clear ground rules beats hiding in a closet. Otherwise everyone just gets stressed out.

Clear ground rules" is the key part. I see this all the time with roommates or family visits. People just assume others will figure out the quiet hours or cleaning schedule, and then they're shocked when someone is vacuuming at 7am. It's always better to say the awkward thing upfront.
