I thought a client's website migration would be a two-day job, it took three weeks
Honestly, a client asked me to move their online store from an old platform to Shopify. They said all the product info was ready in a spreadsheet. Ngl, I quoted for two days of work. The spreadsheet was a mess, missing images, wrong prices, and half the descriptions were just one word. I had to rebuild almost every listing from scratch using their old site and pictures I had to download myself. It took me three full weeks, working nights and weekends, just to get it looking right. I lost money on that job for sure. Has anyone else had a simple migration turn into a nightmare because the client's data was useless?

That spreadsheet mess sounds way too familiar. Last time I got a "clean" product list, the colors were coded with internal warehouse numbers only their old staff knew. Had to cross-check every single item with their old site photos just to figure out basic info. Makes you want to add a data audit fee to every quote now, doesn't it?

Ugh, that's brutal. Did you end up charging them more for all that extra work, or were you stuck with the original quote?
