Back when I used to track all my hours in a paper notebook
For 5 years I wrote down every freelance job in a spiral notebook, then spent an hour every Sunday adding it up on a calculator. Now I use a free app that does it instantly, but I honestly feel less connected to my work and my numbers. Does anyone else miss the old way even though it was way more work?

My dad still hand-writes his grocery list every week, then types it into his phone at the store... says it helps him remember what he actually needs. I think there's something to that, the physical act of writing forces your brain to slow down and really process the numbers instead of just watching them appear on a screen.

Oh totally, that reminds me of my grandma who would write checks and then balance her checkbook by hand every single time. She'd rewrite the whole thing if she made a mistake too, like actually start over on a new sheet of paper. I used to think it was a waste of time but now I get it, that physical act of writing it down makes you commit to it more. I started doing something similar with my to-do lists where I write them on a sticky note first before putting them in my phone. Funny how the old ways stick around for a reason, your dad might be onto something with his double approach.
