Got a 'free' couch from a listing in Oak Park last month, ended up paying $75 for a flea bomb and a ruined Saturday.

Ugh, that's the worst. Honestly, "free" furniture is almost never free once you factor in the hidden costs. You have to think about the gas and truck rental to get it, then your time cleaning it, and yeah, the risk of bringing in bugs. I've learned to just skip those listings now because the stress isn't worth it. A cheap, clean used couch from a real store ends up costing less in the long run.

but sometimes you just need a table now and can't wait to save up. I got a solid wood dresser for free last year, just needed a good scrub. Rented a truck for an hour split with a friend, cost me ten bucks. That thing would've been hundreds new and it's still perfect in my room. You gotta know what's worth grabbing and what's truly junk.
