Vent: The old sand mixer at the Tacoma plant finally gave out last week

Three years ago, that thing was running every shift, mixing green sand for the whole molding line. Last month, the motor started making this grinding noise that just got worse. On Friday afternoon, it seized up completely, and we had to shut down Bay 3 for two hours. The new automated unit they brought in is faster, but it doesn't have that same feel. Anyone else miss the old manual controls on the equipment?

Totally get that. The old manual stuff let you feel the mix change through the wheel. You could tell by the sound and the shake when it was just right. Now you just watch a green light on a screen. It's quieter, but you lose that connection to the work. Feels more like babysitting a computer.
