Old timer in Toledo told me to always pour on a count, never by eye
I was working a night shift at the iron foundry here about six months back, pouring a small run of gear blanks. This guy, Frank, who's been there since the 80s, watched me for a minute from the catwalk. He came down, pointed at my ladle, and said, 'Kid, you're guessing. You gotta pour for a three-count, every time. The metal doesn't lie, but your eyes will.' I switched to his method and my scrap rate dropped by half almost immediately. Anyone else have a simple trick from a veteran that just flat-out worked?
