I thought the new ceramic foam filters were just a gimmick

Our supplier pushed them hard, saying they cut down on inclusions in our iron castings. I was sure our old method was fine, but we ran a test on a batch of 50 manhole covers. The scrap rate dropped from about 8% to under 2% on that run. The metal just looked cleaner coming out of the furnace. Has anyone else seen results this good, or did we just get lucky?

We switched to a new binder last year and saw a similar drop in scrap. Makes you wonder what else we're all missing, right?

Similar drop in scrap" sounds good but how much are we talking? A few percentage points could just be normal variation. Sometimes we chase small wins that don't really move the big numbers.
